Disc golf has evolved over the years since Ed Headrick, inspired by the recreational use of pie pans, film can lids and toy flying saucers, patented the Frisbee in 1964.
Early versions of the game used trees, trash cans, light poles, chicken-wire baskets and a variety of other targets for holes. In 1975, Headrick patented the basket now used for most courses, which consists of a pole with a up-ward-opening metal basket and 10 chains hanging from the top of the basket, providing a cushion to keep the disc from rebounding off the central pole.See the full content of this document
