While the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) has long been associated with search and rescue missions (SAR), its work also includes disaster relief and communications, as well as homeland security missions. The Taos Composite Squadron's airplane, a Cessna 182, is hangared at the Taos Municipal Airport.
The CAP is formed of teams of trained pilots and observers who respond to a variety of emergencies, but especially searching for downed aircraft, wildfire-spotting, locating stranded hunters or hikers. They also do damage assessment and transport personnel and supplies after disasters.See the full content of this document
