There's one view of Eagle Nest that still looks like an old mining town. It's the ramshackle collection of wooden buildings gathered next to Eagle Nest Lake. They look as if they've been there for at least a hundred years.

And really, some of them have. Not by the lake but in the little spit of a town, such as the Laguna Vista Lodge was built in the 1890s. The lodge is listed as one of the best places to stay in the Moreno Valley, and was considered a pretty good place to stay during the gold rush, too, when Baldy Town and nearby Elizabethtown were full of crusty miners.
