The Future of Sludge in Taos

Summary


Every month, the town's wastewater treatment plant produces 150 tons of sludge that cost the town as much as $100,000 a year to dispose of.

Plans to reduce this cost have ranged from spreading a liquefied form on an adjacent field (the state shut that down) to giving it to Chevron Mining for compost (the mine company nixed that deal) to getting a lower price on transport to the Ro Rancho landfill (a new hauler is under contract).
